Far infrared, full spectrum or hybrid?

Every cabin in our collection is a wooden room with electric heaters. The first decision is which kind of heaters sit behind the walls, because that sets the price band, the feel of the heat and, often, the electrical work.

Carbon panels only (Far infrared)

  • Large, flat carbon heating panels on the walls and often a floor heater
  • Usually the simplest wiring: many plug into a 120V outlet
  • Where most of our entry and mid-price cabins sit (Dynamic, most Maxxus)

Carbon plus near infrared (Full spectrum)

  • Far infrared carbon panels paired with near infrared elements (and mid infrared on some models)
  • More heater types to compare: ask for the count of each
  • Golden Designs Reserve Edition and Blisspod full spectrum lines

Infrared plus a stove (Hybrid)

  • An infrared system and a traditional sauna stove in one cabin
  • On the Golden Designs Toledo the two run separately, not at the same time
  • Needs 240V service and a licensed electrician
Question Far infrared Full spectrum Hybrid
Our price range (from) $1,999 $4,499 $12,999
Typical power in our range 120V, 15A or 20A 120V 15A up to 220V 20A 240V, 40A
Listed temperature Many list 118°F to 132°F, up to 140°F Same on Golden Designs; Blisspod lists up to 140°F 118°F to 132°F, up to 140°F (as listed)
Who it suits First sauna, tighter budget, standard outlet Buyers who want more heater types in one cabin Households that also want stove heat and steam

Buyer tip: "Full spectrum" is a marketing label, not a standard, and titles and descriptions do not always agree. Ask for the heater count by type: the Golden Designs Reserve Edition 2 Person lists 3 far infrared carbon panels and 3 near infrared elements.

Heaters, EMF and temperature

Three specs cause the most confusion: heater count and placement, the "low EMF" versus "near zero EMF" label, and what the temperature numbers mean.

Heater count and placement

More heaters is not automatically better. What matters is whether the panels face where you actually sit: behind your back, at your sides, under your legs and at your feet. Ask for a heater map. Examples from our live listings: the Dynamic Gracia (1 to 2 person) lists 7 carbon panels, the Maxxus Avignon (3 person corner) lists 9, and the Golden Designs Monaco (6 person) lists 15.

Low EMF vs near zero EMF

EMF (electromagnetic field) is produced by any electrical heater. There is no single industry standard for "low EMF," so the label only means something when it comes with a measured number and a distance.

Label without a number (Low EMF)

  • Used across the Dynamic line and the standard Maxxus models
  • Most of these listings do not publish a milligauss (mG) reading
  • If the number matters to you, ask us for the manufacturer's measurement

Published reading (Near zero EMF)

  • Golden Designs and Maxxus "ZF" models use PureTech near zero EMF panels
  • Listed at under 3 mG measured 2 to 3 inches from the panel
  • Usually a few hundred dollars more than the same cabin in low EMF

Same cabin, two EMF ratings: The Maxxus Seattle 2 Person comes in a low EMF version (MX-J206-01, from $2,499) and a near zero EMF version (MX-J206-01-ZF, from $2,899). Same 48" x 42" x 75" footprint and 120V/15A plug-in power; the difference is the panel type and the published under 3 mG reading.

Temperature numbers

Many Golden Designs, Dynamic and Maxxus listings give an ideal operating range of 118°F to 132°F with a maximum of 140°F. Blisspod lists an adjustable range up to 60°C (140°F). Infrared cabins run cooler than a traditional stove sauna by design. If you want higher air temperatures and water-on-rocks steam, that is the case for a hybrid with a stove.

Wood species and person capacity

The wood is the room you sit in every session, and the "person" rating is a seating count, not a comfort promise. Measure both against your space and your household.

Canadian hemlock (Most of our range)

  • Light color, fine grain, mild scent when warm
  • Used across Dynamic, Golden Designs, Blisspod and most Maxxus models
  • Usually the lower-cost wood option

Canadian red cedar (Premium option)

  • Darker reddish tone and a stronger aroma when heated
  • In our range: Maxxus Avignon, Chaumont and Montilemar
  • Costs more than the comparable hemlock cabin

Capacity vs interior size

Compare interior width and depth, not the person count: a "1 to 2 person" cabin at 35" wide sits very differently from a "2 person" cabin at 44". Corner models use an awkward room angle well but need a square of floor.

Model (as listed) Capacity Interior W x D x H Exterior W x D x H From
Dynamic Gracia DYN-6119-01 1 to 2 35" x 32" x 68" 39" x 36" x 75" $1,999
Maxxus Seattle MX-J206-01 2 44" x 38" x 68" 48" x 42" x 75" $2,499
Golden Designs Reserve 2 Person GDI-8020-03 2 43" x 36" x 68" 47" x 41" x 75" (+5" overhang) $5,999
Maxxus Avignon (corner, red cedar) 3 56" x 56" x 68" 60" x 60" x 75" (+9.4" overhang) $5,099
Blisspod Vienna RED (corner) 4 to 5 68.9" x 68.9" x 71.65" 70.87" x 70.87" x 74.8" $7,999
Golden Designs Monaco GDI-6996-01 6 68" x 57" x 72" 73" x 61" x 79" (+6" overhang) $8,999

Watch out: Roof overhangs add depth that is not in the headline footprint. Add the overhang, plus a few inches of clearance and room to open the door, before you commit to a spot.

Space, power and installation

Electrical service is the spec most likely to change your budget and timeline. Read it before you read anything else on a product page.

  • 120V / 15A: Plug-in models; a dedicated outlet is often recommended
  • 120V / 20A: Dedicated receptacle; plan an electrician visit
  • 220V to 240V: Hardwired or dedicated circuit by a licensed electrician
Electrical requirement (as listed) Examples in our range
120V/15A, plug and play Dynamic Gracia, Serena, Lucca; Maxxus Seattle (both versions); Golden Designs Reserve 1, 2 and 4 Person
120V/20A, dedicated receptacle Dynamic Bergamo, Lugano, Bellagio; Maxxus Avignon, Bellevue, MX-K306, MX-K406 and Chaumont
Two dedicated 120V/20A outlets on separate breakers Golden Designs Monaco (6 person)
220V/20A, certified electrician Blisspod Vienna RED (3180W), Blisspod Venetian RED
240V/40A, licensed electrician required Golden Designs Toledo hybrid (infrared plus Harvia 8KW stove)

Room and delivery checklist

  • Indoor or outdoor. Most Golden Designs, Dynamic and Maxxus cabins are indoor use only, and Dynamic's warranty is voided by outdoor placement. Blisspod lists some models for indoor or fully sheltered outdoor use.
  • Weight and floor. Assembled weights run from about 250 lbs (smallest Dynamic models) to 825 lbs (Golden Designs Toledo). Place on a level, solid floor.
  • Delivery access. Cabins ship flat in 2 to 6 boxes; the largest Blisspod boxes are over 70" tall. Measure doorways, stairs and turns from the curb to the room.
  • Assembly. Most use clasp-together panels. Plan for two adults and an afternoon.
  • Clearance. Leave space for the overhang, the door swing and access to the outlet.

Electrical listings and FDA status

An infrared sauna is a large electrical appliance you sit inside. An electrical safety listing is the certification that matters most, and it is worth asking for in writing.

ETL, UL or CSA listing (Electrical safety)

  • Shows the product was tested by a recognized lab to a North American electrical safety standard
  • Several Blisspod listings state ETL, ISO, CE, BSCI and FSC certifications
  • Many other listings in our range do not state a listing: ask us and we will request it from the manufacturer

FDA clearance (Regulatory)

  • A 510(k) clearance means FDA agreed a device is substantially equivalent to one already on the market, for a specific stated use
  • It is not an FDA "approval" and covers only the use named in the clearance
  • None of the saunas in this guide is described as FDA-cleared in its product listing

Watch out: If any seller tells you a sauna is FDA-cleared, ask for the 510(k) number and what the clearance covers, then look it up in FDA's public 510(k) database. If you cannot verify the claim, do not rely on it.

Also worth asking: Wood sourcing (several brands list reforested or FSC-certified wood), glass type (tempered glass is standard across our range), and whether the cabin's warranty holds for residential and commercial use. Dynamic's listed warranty, for example, covers electrical for 1 year in commercial use.

Total cost of ownership

The cabin price is the largest number, but not the only one. Budget for these lines before you compare models.

Cost line What to plan for
Purchase From $1,999 (Dynamic Gracia) to $12,999 (Golden Designs Toledo) in our collection, as of October 2026
Delivery Ask whether delivery is curbside, liftgate or inside, and what it costs for your address and floor
Electrical work None for most 120V/15A models; an electrician for 20A dedicated, two-circuit, 220V and 240V models
Electricity Multiply the heater wattage (in kW) by hours of use and your utility rate. Example: a 3,180W cabin at full draw uses about 3.2 kWh per hour
Upkeep Wipe-down of benches and floor, a towel on the bench, occasional light sanding of wood; no water chemicals or other consumables for infrared-only cabins
Warranty Dynamic lists 1 to 5 years by component (residential, indoor). Blisspod lists 2 years limited on wood, heaters and electrical. Others: confirm with us

Buyer tip: Two cabins at similar prices can differ by an electrician visit. A 120V/15A plug-in model and a 120V/20A dedicated-receptacle model may look alike online, but only one is ready on delivery day in most homes. Price the electrical work before you compare cabin prices.

Watch out: Warranty terms often depend on where and how the cabin is used. Ask whether coverage is limited to the original buyer, indoor placement or residential use, and get the terms in writing before you order.

Questions to ask before buying

Bring this list to any seller, including us. Every answer should be specific and, where it matters, in writing.

  • What exact voltage and amperage does it need, and is that a plug-in, a dedicated receptacle or a hardwired circuit?
  • Does the outlet need to be non-GFCI, and is a dedicated circuit required or only recommended?
  • How many heaters of each type (far, near, mid) are there, and where are they placed?
  • What is the measured EMF in milligauss, at what distance, and who measured it?
  • Which wood species is used for walls, benches and floor?
  • What are the interior and exterior dimensions, including the roof overhang?
  • What does it weigh assembled, how many boxes does it ship in, and what is the largest box size?
  • Is it indoor only? Does outdoor or garage placement affect the warranty?
  • Does it carry an ETL, UL or CSA listing? Can I see the certificate or listing number?
  • If anyone mentions FDA: what is the 510(k) number and what does it cover?
  • What does the warranty cover, for how long, and is it transferable?
  • Who handles warranty claims and replacement parts, and how fast?
  • What delivery service is included (curb, liftgate, inside), and what is the return policy?
