Galaxy Zero Jupiter Pro two person 2.0 ATA hard shell hyperbaric chamber

Home Hyperbaric Chambers: 1.3 vs 1.5 vs 2.0 ATA

When you start comparing home hyperbaric chambers, the first number you will notice is the ATA rating. This guide explains what it means and how the chambers we carry differ, using only the manufacturers' published specs.

What does ATA mean?

ATA stands for "atmospheres absolute." At sea level you are at 1.0 ATA. A chamber rated 1.3 ATA pressurizes to 1.3 times normal atmospheric pressure, and a 2.0 ATA chamber reaches double. A higher rating needs a stronger shell and more capable equipment.

1.3 to 1.4 ATA: soft shell and portable

These are usually soft shell chambers made from flexible material. They are lighter and easier to set up and store. Examples include the RevitalCore Ascent Rise, OxyRevo Elite 32 and Elite36, OxyRevo Forward90 1.4 ATA, OxyRevo Heal 40 and MedEq TimePod Air Wheelchair 1.4 (both wheelchair accessible), and Airvida Chair Pro.

1.5 ATA: the middle ground

Many portable lying and sitting chambers are rated up to 1.5 ATA. You will find this in the OxyRevo Apex 32 and Apex36, the OxyRevo Forward90 1.5 ATA, the Airvida Pro90, the Airvida portable lying chamber, and the MedEq TimeCapsule Air 1.5 and TimePod Air 1.5 Pro. Some RevitalCore Ascent Flex models are adjustable between 1.3 and 1.5 ATA.

2.0 ATA: hard shell chambers

Chambers rated to 2.0 ATA use hard shells, often stainless steel or carbon, to hold the higher pressure. Options include the Galaxy Zero Apollo (single user) and Jupiter Pro (two person), the OxyRevo Space60 and Quest series, the Airvida Elite and Ultra, the RevitalCore Summit walk-in chambers, the TSB 360 TwinForce, and the MedEq TimePod Ultra 2, TimePod 2 and TimeCapsule Vision C750+ and C900+. Several of these are multi-person or walk-in designs.

Other things to compare

  • Position: lying, sitting or walk-in.
  • Capacity: single user, two person or larger multiplace chambers.
  • Power: many compressors run on 110/120V, while some larger systems list 220/240V. Check each spec table.
  • Space and access: measure your room and doorway, especially for hard shell and walk-in models.
